The art of simplicity
The Vulcain vase was born by chance! As the Maison’s heritage director walked through the workshop, she noticed an artisan reshaping the original form of a tureen — a creation by Jean Puiforcat. She was so captivated by its stripped-down silhouette, still marked by the hammer’s blows, that the idea came to her: to turn it into a creation in its own right.
This vase is entirely handcrafted. The artisan begins with a simple sheet of metal, gradually shaping it by striking in a circular motion, working from the center outward, using a steel anvil to guide the form of the vase. Its distinctive feature lies in the raw finish: the material remains untouched, preserving the marks left by the hammer, resulting in a truly singular texture. Each piece is therefore completely unique.

In partnership with the Judd Foundation, Puiforcat created an eight-piece table service designed by American artist Donald Judd in the late 1980s and left behind in draft form upon his demise.
Following the specifications of Judd’s sketches, preserved in the Foundation’s archives, Puiforcat’s craftmen shaped the metal using traditional techniques to achieve the level of precision considered the standard of Donald Judd’s work.
