Black playing cards

From the logo of his winter sports club in the 1920s to the monogram-filled sketchbooks of 1945, Jean Puiforcat always had a passion for letters. Whether used as decorative elements, functional markers, or personal signatures, typography played a central role in his creative universe.

A gifted draftsman, Puiforcat presented his monogram designs at the 1937 Exposition Universelle in Paris, following the advice of Charles Peignot, artistic director of a renowned typography house. On that same occasion, he unveiled a unique set of playing cards, said to have been hand-colored by his wife, Marta Esteves.

Each card is elegantly finished with a silver-gilded edge, adding a refined and playful touch to this card game.
